He was a protector. He stood tall when the village was attacked and it took 4-5 of them to subdue him. At the temple he was strong even in his desperation and impending death. The dude was an absolute boss. He played his part on his life and did it well. In fact did it with a smile. They picked on him a lot but they loved him and he loved them. You could see that when they separated him from his mother in law too. Great character arc.
