If Max never fights again, Brian's next fight will be for the championship...on a full camp, against a known opponent - instead of a 'surprise' opponent on 2 days notice.

Brian made the smart move. Frankie/Aldo/Stephens...who's going to jump Brian for a title fight if Max retires?
Thats what should happen but thats being far to trusting of Egg for my taste.

He woulda had a full camp against an unknown opponent but that
opponent did not have a full camp and the title shot was guaranteed

No gurantee now. Egg has already tried not to pay his show money.

I just think you have to take those shots. Another reason why Dana loved Conor (so he says anyway).

He's trusting Egg far too much to do the right thing

God forbid Brian gets injured and has to sit a few months. You can bet money Egg
will make Frankie vs Jeremy for the Title.

He already tried to make that fight the second Brian said no and it only fell through
because Frankies family said no

That is nuts. Screw fighting again...this is about his long term health at this point. Fighting is secondary. Wish him well.

it was a guaranteed 'interim' (AKA #1 Contender) belt against a Top 5 guy who was 2 weeks out from his own fight and who fights nothing like Max...I don't know Brian's contract, but I think Brian and Ed do, and they decided that it was too much risk for not near enough reward.

If they would have fed him the equivalent of Ragin' Al, like they did Khabib, for the real belt - I'd agree with you.

I still think that Ortega was smart to not take the Stephens fight on short notice but i agree it could be a real long time before max is back if he had a stroke.
If he had a mini-stroke, at the very least he is never fighting at 145 again, and will be giving up the belt.

Either way this is horrible news and I hope it's not true.

How many times do I have to say that weight cutting is stupid and dangerous?
