I don't get it. A desperate money grab for a fight with someone else who can outwrestle him makes me think Ngannou doesn't have a lot of faith in himself to stay on top of the rankings very long.

That's what was said going into Brock's fight with Hunt. Just on his sheer size, speed, wrestling, and freak athleticism, I'd favor Brock over most UFC HW's not named Stipe, Cain, and possibly Overeem, Werdum, and JDS.

True, Brock brings money. But he also brings a bad matchup and likely a bad beat down (imo). Seems like the more logical path is to keep fighting the washed up old timers that are currently in the division. Stringing together several wins would be more money than a bad loss that sends him back down the rankings. Or maybe I’m just thinking about it all wrong. Maybe Brock is life changing, red panty, type of money.

He is a competitor, he might feel he can beat Brock.
He certainly has a good chance
If he can't beat Brock, he will never get a big money fight, because he will not be near the top of the division.
