I imagine the Vatican is a lot like government, they usually try to select the leader they want for their purposes and in the cases where the wrong one slips into the top position the system is so strong and other people are so deeply entrenched that it's nearly impossible to change the direction of it all.

I’ll be attending my granddaughter’s confirmation on Sunday. Would almost rather be shot. Son married a Catholic girl so we occasionally get caught up in the trappings. It’s all too complicated for my taste, raised Protestant and told that if you want to talk to God then do it, man to Deity. You don’t have to ask his mother or any other “saint” to speak for you. Saw some guy on TV Monday morning refer to the pope as “…the voice of God on Earth…” and nearly stroked out. Jesus was the voice of God on Earth, if you believe that sort of thing, not some guy elected by other guys.
But to each his own. We all believe what we want to, ultimately.

Good on you for supporting her. Try not to bring negativity into her special day. It's not like what she's doing is bad in any way. You are free to believe what you will, I think it's refreshing to see record amounts of people join the church after seeing marxism gain such a strong foothold in society.

Yep, we do. Went to her parents’ wedding, her baptism, first communion, etc. 100% support. Ironically, though Catholic, she and her younger sister go to a Baptist youth group on Wednesday nights. It’s all good.
