Good to see the discussion and seems a lot of opinions based on the UG VU system...
A little explanation on how we currently do karma system (IF WE DECIDE TO KEEP IT)
See those little grey dots on the left??? (Or above on mobile)
They will light up over time with more and more blocks filled to show your reputation on the site. These blocks are filled through several variables:
- how many likes your posts get
- who likes your posts (those with higher reputation have more "powerful" likes)
- how long you are a member
- how many posts you have
BY FAR the most valuable add to your reputation is how many people like your posts and who likes them. You get a tiny trickle for time and activity.
So we have a karma system that I am tweaking. There are NO negative karma options. YOU CAN reward good content and users. This is the current compromise as we don't want brigades of shitheads trolling people and voting down good content.
We will consider different graphics than the bar at a later date (ie custom graphics or belts or whatever)
EDIT - errr, to be accurate, the one way that you can get NEGATIVE reputation is to get infractions from mods and admins.

I voted no based off how crappy it worked out on the UG. If a better system is in place where trolls dont have +1000 votes ups and people are not frozen because they they dont have a favorable opinion then I may be for it.

Forum Default is changed to 20 (though we'll see if I keep it. It can jack up mobile browsing with large threads)
EVERYONE CAN CHANGE THEIR OWN 'POST PER PAGE' FOR THEIR PREFERENCE.
Click your profile -> Settings -> Account -> Posts per Page -> Select your preferred number to make it longer or shorter.
