Now this is the weird cycle we are in as MMA fans/UFC zombies. On one side, we have the argument that "WME/IMG don't expect me to pay for this shit, a card full of nobodies".... The other "UFC needs to do a better job building up their fighters so that you don't get hijacked by people like Conor or (at the time) Ronda, who take extended leaves".
We want them to promote their fighters better, giving them a true shot at financial stability, however we don't want them selling us a card filled with up and comers and acting like it's all their A list fighters.
Its interesting all of that. Because most the time names are made by competing against other names and putting on one hell of a performance or winning. Hoi Choi had his name elevated with the Swanson fight, Korean Zombie and Garcia with theres. A ton of casuals got their exposure to Nate Diaz through his McGregor feud. Gus got his stock elevated greatly through the Jones and Cormier fights. Or at least to my knowledge.
Meek got some exposure through his win over Palhares even.
Then you have instances like McGregor, Ronda who they do back and do have outstanding performances. Which they choose mostly on charisma or mystique.
The card of nobodies usually will lead to one of them to fight someone of name value to get more on theirs, but it is lackluster at the time. I’m more ranting, throwing ideas at the wall at what makes a named fighter.
