In attempt to let the community determine its own fate, we left the Report button so members can just help self-police the place.

With that I've seen it used to troll moderators ("fuck you Wild @Wild" as the reason lol), try to get mods to pick a side in a fair argument, and there is a very real concern that more active reporters might skew what moderators tend to and what they don't.

Maybe it's not really representing the forum that much? Maybe it only represents a skewed section?

Thoughts?

What you are seeing is the same people that keep reporting the same people because they are too internet tough to put them on ignore.

Keep it. You might get a lot of junk, but it certainly can be useful in really dicey situations, and may it only be twice a year or something.

I think it's a useful tool. But alas, can be abused just like anything else.

And that probably sucks ass for the mods.

Report buttons should be used for instances that need intervention. Not for things that can be handled themselves. I'm sure you guys have better things to do.

It's impossible for staff to see every post, I'd rather filter through some shit than be expected to mod posts I've never seen.

Well, if you can get pinked for baiting and trolling too much, how about we rainbow the one's names who abuse the report button? I say their punishment should be public also.

Would it be helpful to temporarily prevent abusers of the report function from reporting, like pinking someone, but maybe not changing their color (because that would make them a target for people who know they can't report)?

Edit: I think Shinkicker @Shinkicker and I were typing at the same time.

Great minds think alike. Except my rainbow idea is better.

Depends. I'm not seeing things from your end. If a lot of it is fucking lame ass jimmy rustler type "reported" shit whenever someone is speaking their mind, but not violating t.o.s, then either a meeting needs to take place regarding alternatives or nixing it altogether.

But I will say, it has come in handy on other sites where it's mostly mature discussion and spamming can be an issue. Those people aren't members to fuck around and play little fucky fuck games with the privileges and tools provided. But mma tends to have a different core demo and it needs to have a creative element to stay one step ahead of trolls without turning them away. It is a unique community and it needs an equally unique approach.... imo.

It seems like the report button should help more rapidly identify issues in most cases. If it gets abused by a particular group of posters, it would probably be best addressed directly with the offending parties instead of scrapping the whole system.

I like it. I've seen a couple trolls sign up here and I've used the button to notify the mods and they took care of the problem before the person could post more retarded shit.

Alright. Now that i've seen what @Splinty is referring to i get a better understanding.

Some of the reporting is legit, some of it is funny, and some of it is just fucking stupid. It's a useful tool, however some have indeed used it like a tattle button.

Please use it on legit concerns. I suggest if you're going to report something against our standards, it would behoove you to read up on them.

Have fun, and keep being awesome TMMAC. :D

Look at @Alienator with his green banner! Congrats ! Seems like there have been a few more that have gotten the promotion. Kudos to you all, unless I haven't been paying attention and all of you have been mods for a while. In which case I would like to rescind my kudos. I don't hand those out lightly.
