What was that game where the team brought on a crappy qb in the last quarter so they would lose and get a better draught pick?

I thought y'all would watch it even more in a pandemic.

What gives?
Did anyone in this thread read this article?

I can explain how ratings and television trends work if anyone cares, but here's the salient part of the article:

"The historic lows for the Super Bowl are in keeping with the broader trend facing the industry since the wave of cancellations and postponements last March. The lowest rated Super Bowl in 52 years comes less than a month after college football’s national championship posted its worst numbers since the formation of the BCS in 1999. It comes three months after the final round of the Masters posted its worst rating since 1957 and four months after the NBA Finals and World Series hit all-time lows.

The difference between the Super Bowl and those other events is that Sunday’s declines were still relatively modest. The single-digit drop in ratings and viewership compares to much sharper declines for the college football championship (-27%), World Series (-30%), NBA Finals (-49%), final round of the Masters (-58%) and Stanley Cup Final (-61%).

As goes without saying, the Super Bowl remains easily the highest rated and most-watched program in U.S. television even with the multi-year lows. Sunday’s 38.2 rating topped every other television program since 1994, when the Nancy Kerrigan-Tonya Harding controversy lifted the 1994 Winter Olympics figure skating competition to consecutive 40+ ratings (48.5 on night one and 44.1 on night two).

Outside of the 1994 Olympics, no sporting event has had a higher rating since Game 7 of the 1986 World Series (Red Sox-Mets: 38.9)"

Isn't it cute that they pretend their soccer royalty when they only have 1 more World Cup win than America?
It is especially cute with England.
But I think they might have finally understood that their style of football doesn't cut it. They have a lot of continental coaches and staff now, and it shows in their national team as well. They have good players and good prospects, they could play a role. But.. not with Neville as coach I don't think.

You know how many English coaches won their league in the last 30 years? That's right, it's 0. Zero. Nada. Zip.
For Champions League winning English coaches you have to go back to the 70s and early 80s.
Don't search for football expertise in Englishmen.

But the strong influx of continental knowledge will bleed through eventually I guess.

how do you make this list without spain they dominate the champions league and won the 2010 world cup.
Very true, they totally dominated in 2008-2012 (two Euro wins as well) and influenced modern football heavily with their style of play. You cannot discard this at all.

Brazil, Italy and Germany are the only countries who with some rare exceptions are always favorites to win. Between the 3 of them they hold 13 of the 21 World Cups. Every now and then someone will fluke a win on them (I'm looking at you Spain and England) but realistically there are 3 soccer super powers and a bunch of enhancement talents who are there to make the World Cup seem like an actual world event.
Now, I don't quite agree with this.
First of all, Uruguay, Argentina and France have two wins each as well, and France were the most successful if you look at the last 6 tournaments only.

Also the French youth development right now is unparalleled, don't be surprised to see em get some more. We fell off quite a bit it seems and need to claw our way back.

Apart from that, the flavor that is the world cup and to a lesser extent the euro cup is awesome.
Croatia making the final last time around is great. They had some awesome players and build a real team with the right spirit.
Stories like Denmark 92 or Greece 04 are great.

The Dutch play a big role in football as well, albeit never winning the big thing. I wouldn't wanna let em out. Unless they fail to qualify which is always hilarious.

Belgium has a golden generation right now - perhaps it's at the end already, but maybe they can get something this or next year.
They have arguably the best midfielder right now in De Bruyne and strong players all around the pitch, with a weapon of a player in Lukaku upfront. However they never had a first class coach, I don't know why they didn't bother, but it seems wasted to me. Even when they hired internationally, they took a second-rate spaniard only.

Smaller countries can make it and certainly add a lot.

Oh and to add to that, the emergence of Island on the stage lately has been very refreshing as well. Sure they will not win anything, but it's fun.
Norway has good players right now, Haaland might become the best striker soon.

It would be boring and stale to just have the same three countries about.

LOL at this nonsense about politics.

By American city standards, Tampa and Kansas City are podunk towns and these teams don't seem to have the prestige of a team like Green Bay to compensate for it.

And my ignorance about this sport is actually how you tell. I had heard of maybe 3/4ths of NFL teams prior to last year's Super Bowl, and Kansas and Tampa were in the 1/4th I hadn't.

You wouldn't expect anyone to give a fuck about them playing each other.

I was thinking about adding Argentina and Uruguay but neither of then have been truly relevant for a long time. France, same thing "6 tournaments" may sound recent but 6 tournaments is 25 years ago.

Yeah and in these 25 years nobody else won twice.
If you wanna cut nations for not performing, maybe don't cut the one performing the best in the last quarter century.

France can try to play into the group through some sort of relegation round. 4 team tourney does make more sense.

Philadelphia's last game of the season. I thought they did it in order to eliminate a rival from playoff contention. The coach (now fired) denied it of course.

Q @Qat if you ever wanna see REAL football I will host you at a Toronto FC game
Thanks bro. Though I don't think it will be soon until I touch Canadian soil again.
My last two bigger vacations where to Island and our own coast, I'm longing for some warm water (well they have some in Island which honestly was incredible, but you know what I mean). Thinking maybe Madeira.

If you ever come around here again I'd host you to some real Ice hockey.

I don't keep up much with soccer except when the World Cup comes around and maybe the Gold Cup. I remember Chivas being beloved because they were the only Mexican soccer team that was strictly all Mexicans and no outsiders like Guatemalans and so on not sure if that's still true. I know enough though to say "Fuck America!" (Mexican Soccer Team America not Murica')...
