Surprising to see no discussion on this latest terror spree..
Is it because (as I predicted) this society is numb and useless when it comes to mass killings? Didn't break last month's record of 58 so not newsworthy?
Or is it because President Dotard said: Trump says Texas shooting is mental health issue, not about guns
Or is it because he wasn't an 'Islamic terrorist'.......

Lone Wolf -- that is the next Osama Bin Laden the media will be pushing ...

They want you to live in a state of fear -- hate is spreading across the world.

They want you to believe your neighbor is the one you should be worried about!

But why?

Enslavement.

Post 9/11 Congress rushed through the Patriot Act ..then a few years later they added the "Lone Wolf" provisions....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extending Patriot Act Powers

And what is the "lone wolf" power?

There are basically two tiers of legal restrictions on government surveillance powers inside the United States. There’s one set of rules for fighting crime, where the restrictions on government surveillance are quite high:

The government, in order to monitor communications of a suspect, has to go to a judge and show probable cause that the suspect has committed a crime. The other tier is for [surveillance of] foreign powers like spies of an enemy government or agents of specifically designated terrorist organizations. For that kind of surveillance, the government goes to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and only has to meet a lower standard in order to get a warrant to monitor communications.

The question with respect to lone wolf terrorists is this: Suppose a foreigner comes to the United States and is suspected of terrorism but isn’t affiliated with a specific foreign terrorist organization--should we treat that individual like a criminal, and subject the government to the tighter restrictions on surveillance, or treat that more like a foreign intelligence case where we would use the lower standards and the special foreign intelligence court? What the lone wolf provision says is the government can treat a lone wolf terrorist like that second category, in which restrictions on government surveillance are less constraining.

What are the civil liberties concerns with these particular provisions?

There are two types of civil liberties concerns that arise. One is a concern about individual invasion of privacy: that the government is going to collect more information on individuals than it needs to, or that it is going to collect information on the wrong individuals. Another related concern is that these kinds of surveillance powers have historically been prone to abuse. Some of the legal restrictions on surveillance that the Patriot Act was designed to roll back were actually the direct product of abuses by the FBI, the CIA, and other government agencies. During the 1960s and ’70s, national security intelligence powers were used by government agents to spy on political opposition [and] cast abusively wide nets. That legacy of abuse has raised a lot of concerns about whether there is adequate oversight with respect to these new surveillance powers.

They don't even want those guns. It's not like those guns will stop them when they come for you. They will just drone your house. The gun talk is just a distraction.

It's on the first page, I think 2 topics behind this one. You must have the thread creator on your ignore list.
It appears you are correct about the ignore list.
So that automatically means my thread is better.;)

Agree about the guns, if those in control want to take you out they will have no problems with the drone tech we have now. I do feel every American family should have a gun or two for their own personal protection in case of civil unrest, because if shit hits the fan chances are you will not be on the Swat teams priority list to protect.

Global Hawk Drone with the Argus tech built in is pretty amazing and frightening at the same time.

I feel like I've stated tbefore - the soluton to gun violence is one of the very extermes. Either repeal & replace" the 2nd amendment ... with caveats (such as paid gun surrender program & death penalty for owning one:smilingimp:) or,... what you say - subsidized by the gubment - give EVERYONE a free gun & have them available everywhere like fire extinguishers. Either way problem solved if you think about it........
