No question, the article is older (I hadn't initially checked the date) and we'll have to see how it shakes out with the current disaster but the law requiring loyalty to a foreign country remains on the books in TX and something like 37 states now have similar laws. Getting that shit corrected is going to take a while.

I think it's been a pretty rare occurrence in Texas and Arizona, but it's happened before plenty of times. The area in Texas is known as "flash flood alley" for a reason. Raleigh floods all the time, especially during the summer, as do many other cities in the south during the summer months. The flooding in Raleigh was caused by the remnants of tropical storm chantal. Outer bands of that storm hit my parents and they got a few inches of rain in a very short period of time, too. Storms regularly blow through that dump lots of rain. It's why Southern states are as humid as the devil's asshole all summer long.
So that is how a river finds a new route, the erosion creates a new channel in a different spot
