Mayweather-McGregor was just the start

Basically, it talks about more crossover BOXING matches with the bigger names in MMA. Stipe is already calling out Anthony Joshua on twitter. McGregor made so much money that all the big names in MMA are going to go over to boxing to get beaten for big dollars, making mma look like a joke and turning it into a stepping stone for guys who can't climb the boxing ladder to make a name in MMA and then go get slapped around in a boxing match.

Greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttt. Thanks Conor...

I think this is going to be great for MMA because McGregor is opening the doors to bigger and bigger paydays. Guys will realize what they're worth and the UFC will be forced to pay it's stars better, lest they lose them to boxing :leftright:

It won't happen, don't worry. The only fight that was worth it was Conor vs Floyd. No way this becomes a trend.

There is no MMA fighter vs boxer fight that will ever make as much sense as May Mac did. Stipe versus anyone will never be a draw in boxing.
There isn't anything that will get anywhere close.

There isn't anything that will make the UFC want to split the profits of an event with at least 1 other party when they can build their own brand and keep all the profits for themselves.

Both sides are delusional. Floyd / Conor only sold like that because it's Floyd and Conor.

Joshua is worth a lot from his last fight but nobody in boxing gives a shit about Stipe, why would they pay so much to watch after we already saw what happens when MMA fighter vs Boxer.

Guys like Ward, who's pretty well known boxer only sells less than 150k, who's going to tune in for less skilled puncher and a less draw MMA fighter??

Stipe isnt shit without his UFC belt. If he somehow keeps the belt until his contract is up he may be able to leverage that for a couple mil in a boxing match but without the UFC champion tag he is just another guy.

If Cain could actually stay healthy for five minutes Stipe wouldn't even be the champ.

Though he has come a long way and is the #2 heavyweight imo.

I rate this claim "Optimistic"

It's MMA that's making boxing relevant again.

A few years ago boxers called MMA fighters homosexuals an barroom brawlers wh couldn't fight.
Floyd couldn't name one MMA fighter and thought Ronda Rousey was a guy...

Started from the bottom now we here.
Then next crossover should be a top boxer coming to MMA....

That's why I said he wouldn't do it for anyone but Conor. There's no one else on the roster that makes sense financially.

He would if the fights made financial sense for the UFC, but they won't.
I agree, but anyone who isn't currently champion can fight out their contract and then try to set up a boxing match. Good luck with them getting a mega fight, but there are certainly fights they could get (depending upon the fighter and name recognition) that will pay better than the ufc (based on a single fight). Nate Diaz for example, would be paid more (unless he is fightin conor). Mark Hunt, Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler are other examples, in my opinion. The list of fighters that arent champions and would draw is short though. The Anderson vs roy jones fight would have paid very well, but that ship has sailed. This is prize fighting, and the purpose is to make money. Now that the money has been seen, plenty of fighters will want to cross over, for at least one fight, but anyone under contract won't get that opportunity, except conor.

Look at it this way. Maybe Conor and Floyd will put their heads together and set up their own cage somewhere and pay the stars the big boxing dough. I do get the feeling that somehow things will never be quite the same after this.

You say this and yet it was a boxing match that paid the MMA guy the most money of his career...

Boxing has been stagnant. MMA popularity has been steadily growing.
5 years ago, this would never have been a possibility. It just happened.
Now in the general public's eye, MMA is at least on par with boxing. It was never that way before.
This means there could be more cross-overs in the future in both directions. Berto wants to fight in the UFC... this was only the beginning.

growing at a very minuscule rate.

PPV sales would be garbage if not for mcgregor, ronda, and jon jones these past few years. 2 out of 3 of them are gone and the one who is still here hasn't fought in the ufc for a while and we see how crappy the numbers are.

the stars bring good temporary exposure, but in the long run it seems that as they disappear the numbers recede with them.

so yes its growing, but at a steady rate that is very slow and backtracks as stars retire or are injured/suspended
