Not a bad thread Banchan. Now all I need to know is why people of color look better than whitey while wearing garish garb?
if you add a little flare & odd biographical details to your posts you could get a job at the J. Peterman catalogLavender is still going to be on trend because purple is difficult to wear for most people so there's going to be alot of people only willing to venture into muted tones of purple like greyish heather purple or a light lavender purple because these are less of a contrast paired with a neutral like black or grey.
The navy tip still applies with lavender so that you're using purple to compliment blue. Purple is a type of blue (with a bit of red), which is why they work so well together. When paired with blue, purple shows more blue tones but when paired with a neutral like black you see more of the red tones which is why it pops so much when paired with a neutral but seems to disappear when paired with blue. Men usually don't like their clothes to pop too much which is why purple isn't always a comfortable color for them, but blue is and so if you pair the two together, purple just becomes a tone of blue.

As it should.Clothes like that will get you a good stabbing around here
my tailor used to say that "white shirt + tan face = confidence" & also that "modern suits are like the little church in the valley: no ballroom." what do you make of his comments?Swarthy, olive, tan and dark skin tone has a warm undertone.
Some of white skin tone is cool meaning your undertone is pink (pastel). Pink can look dull if there is too big of a contrast between your undertone (pastel) next to a bright color.
Example of Caucasian with cool undertone (you can see the pink in his skin)

However not all white skin is cool tone.
Some are neutral, swarthy (tan) and olive (beige, yellow, orange, brown). The warmer and deeper your skintone, the less that colors on your body (clothing) will contrast with the tone of your face and wash it out (contrast). Warm skintone blends in with deeper color. However pale skintone is contrasting alot with deeper color. Color looking good on us is about complimenting your skintone.

If you have a swarthy complexion like guy above you will look fine in all kinds of colors and your face will not disappear or look too much of contrast next to really bright bold color.
Easy way to tell your undertone is your veins. if your veins on your underside wrist are normally blue, you are cool undertone, bright colors will contrast your undertone more. If they are green you are neutral to warm, bright colors will blend in with your undertone more.
