My Twitter timeline has been full of this WWE bollocks today. I just don't get it.
How can real MMA fans like acting fighting? Makes no sense to me.

Anyone shed any light on what I'm missing please?

I Diddnt watch yesterday as was getting my end away but I got the wwe network when I was bored one week so I could watch old ECw paperviews that I liked when I was a kid. That shit was like rocking horse shit back when I was a young teen, dvds were 20 quid so I'd maybe get one a year from HMV.

After I watched my fill of old ones I started watching NXT (its the development brand that only has a 1 hr show) and typically consists of new talent trying to impress / learn the business and they put in some good matches. I've known it was fake since I was about 8. Stopped watching aged about 15 then started watching a little bit when I was 28 (2 ish years back)

Its just on my weekly rotation of shit I watch I guess. (NXT, I don't watch the main show)

I used to watch it when I was 7.

I am no longer 7.

I like to listen to Chael's podcast but when he talks about pro wrestling i fast forward and fast forward through any fake wrestling guests.

It's not for me.

Objectively its trash entertainment, but so is a lot of stuff that people consume to have the brain rest for a bit. So no need to judge.

What I don't quite get are people who go serious meta about it and worry about the politics behind the scenes and stuff.

Brace yourself for an essay. Laying the verbal smackdown upon us.
Despite the fact that he's Canadian and watches professional wrestling, JHB is a pretty rational and intelligent guy.

I'll be interested to read (or skim if it exceeds 2 paragraphs) his response later.

It's the same reason MMA fans get bent out of shape when they feel their favorite fighter isn't being treated fairly, or conversely when a fighter they don't like is getting special treatment. When you see someone who is an extremely talented, hard worker it's normal to think it's unfair if that persons work isn't recognized just because the boss likes someone else better. We watch sports to escape mundane day to day activity. When we see the people who we watch to escape going through the same BS we do at our 9-5 job it's pretty normal to get a little salty about it.

Not to be condescending, but if you refer to it as "fake wrestling" it's no more likely you'll ever understand than someone who refers to MMA as "Two sweaty guys hugging in a cage"

To be honest I'm kind of surprised this question would be asked by someone that does an MMA show and lives in one of the most Catch Wrestling history rich places in the world.

I guess if we want to call it childish, or for kids. That is a fair argument to make. If only adults today weren't playing videogames, read comics, or watch superhero movies...

See this is weird to me.

First of all, its not a sport where what happens actually matters.
Its more like acting, its acting with a lot of stunt stuff, really, and winning or having a title or anything really means nothing, not a damn thing. It was just written that way by writers or it wasn't, like a script in a show. The only thing that matters, is the fan's reaction to what happens.

As to acting. If Jon Snow dies again next season and @conor mcgregor nut hugger complains about [actor's name] getting treated unfairly by their bosses because of it, then everybody would think: what a freaking weirdo to cry about that.

I liked Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks. Proper wrestling. Not like the copycat stuff in the US.

The outcomes of sports don't actually matter, period.

Should the best actor not be recognized as such? Because that's what the title represents. In addition to a fat pay raise.

The only thing that matters, is the fan's reaction to what happens.
Isn't that counter to your earlier statement that what happens doesn't matter?

No, what happens in the ring does not matter, what the fan's reaction to it is, does though.

I disagree, that is another discussion though.

Should the best actor not be recognized as such?
Sure, and the best ones will get recognized and get their opportunities. And if not in the WWE, then somewhere else. Free market, right?

As state above it actually dictates the performers income, so yes, it does matter even in a sense beyond a fan's personal enjoyment. The writing also isn't dictated by crowd reaction, so the fan's reaction is actually pretty irrelevant.

Sort of. If someone is dissatisfied with the UFC and goes to One FC or Bellator. Will they ever truly get the same recognition? In all seriousness, without looking it up could you name the #2 Pro Wrestling promotion?

It's a tv show. The fans get involved like fans of any movie or tv program. If more Dragons were involved BeardOfKnowledge @JohnyHendricksBeard obviously wouldn't have to continue to explain this to everyone.

I don't watch any more but followed wcw back in the day and watched wwf through the stone cold vs Vince feud.those were good times.i even went to a couple smackdowns and a wcw nitro.i just can't seem to care about any of the characters any more.wrestling changed and I got old.if you still watch then good for you.it is no longer for me but I can't fault someone else for being into it unless they are a dipshit who thinks it is real
