Really? I recall pilot with not alot of flight hrs flew into bad weather when advised not to.

I don't know where I got that though, what's the conspiracy?
I remember it being low light visibility and basically flew a downward path straight into the ocean.

CFIT- Controlled Flight Into Terrain
Plane did exactly what he was telling it to do
No mechanical issues, pilot lost spatial relation. It happens when pilots aren't paying attention to their instruments. A non fatal version of this would be a pilot flying straight but the plane is at a 45°. You don't necessarily notice that in the cockpit visually and everything "feels" normal.
I've been in that situation. I didn't notice it at all in the back. Check pilot let it go for a long time, trainee pilot never caught it.
Happens alot in the desert and over open water, perspective gets weird.
Was he IFR certified or just VFR?
