Tyron Woodley will defend his welterweight title against top contender Demian Maia on July 29 at Anaheim’s Honda Center. MMA Fighting confirmed an initial Wednesday report by FS1.

Woodley (17-3-1) is undefeated in his past five fights at 4-0-1. After going to a draw against Stephen Thompson at UFC 205 in his first title defense, he defeated Thompson in a rematch at UFC 209 by unanimous decision.

I'm starting to believe kneeblock @Kneeblock theory that Jones will drop out of the fight due to moms death.

Maybe Cyborg constant shenanigans has them concerned too because 3 title fights is overkill under regular circumstances. Plus the card already has Volkan-Manuwa, Lamas-Knight and Barao-Sterling.

That card as it stands is awesome now (and that takes into account I don't give a fuck about WMMA). No way it is this awesome when July 29 rolls around.

I too like both guys, but Woodley is a bad matchup for Maia.

Great wrestling and punching power. Very comfortable fighting with his back on the cage.

This is a great fight. I'm looking forward to this one much like I am looking forward to Bones/DC 2.

It's probably not an easy fight for Woodley also since going to the ground would put him into danger. He will try to keep it standing but if he puts his back to the cage I would look for Maia to try and take him down like he did Chael.

This is how i see the fight unfolding but im hoping maia just spidermonkeys him while woodley is against the cage for the rnc. I dont think maia will have any luck shooting on woodley in the open but a clinch against the cage or a single leg attempt to back take seems more likely.

But overall its a bad matchup for maia. Woodley could stalk maia and go for the early KO which i think would be his best option. Pressure maia and make him retreat and get sloppy with td attempts and knock his lights out

I've been wanting Demian to get this shot forever. I wish he had more time, but the game is the same for jiu jitsu Jesus.

I like both guys, but I'm all in on Maia.

Either 1st round TKO for Twood or most likely a slow decision to Twood.
Crazy thought....First/Second round Guillotine for Twood.
