A permit to purchase bill was signed by the governor today for WA state. It takes affect in 2027 which means there won't be an affected party until then which means no lawsuit against it until then.

Note: There is already a law here regarding locking up guns at home and in a vehicle. As well as a timeline to report lost or stolen guns. There are no rules about how to lock them up though, and there has never been a court case regarding this, so no case law. IIRC someone could claim their house is locked making everything in there being locked.

The more recent proposed bill defined rules about how firearms should be locked which is basically a copy and paste of what CA has (which is basically how WA writes gun related bills).

90% of Washington is rednecks, how the fuck does this happen?

The west coast is lost, the commies have overrun it.
King and Pierce counties are where most of the voters live. Most of the people that live in King county are transplants which make it like any other blue dot area on the west coast. Democrats have control of the House, Senate, and Governor's office. They've been doing shit like this for a long time.
  • AR style rifles and similar rifles are banned. Basically, most semi-auto firearms.
  • 10+ round mags are banned
  • There are insane laws the FFLs must follow or be shutdown
Along with a number of other laws that both make it difficult to buy as a citizen or be a profitable FFL.

The entire west coast has been anti-gun for a long time. I'm considering a move to Idaho. I like the PNW and being near the coast. I don't like the politics here though.

I thought lawsuits didn't need an actual victim if they violate the constitution. As soon as they are signed into law, can't lawsuits start flying?

I'm no expert, but I believe there needs to be a victim. Maybe it is different if it challenged at the federal level.
Since it will violate everyone's constitutional right within the state, I don't believe they need to wait for the implementation before filing lawsuits. I think signing it does the trick, as there are no more further steps. Maybe I'm wrong? GOA and NRA usually file their lawsuits within a few days to a week.

Hasn't a permit to purchase been ruled on by the SCOTUS already? AFAIK, Chicago has had that for a long time. I could be wrong.

I'm sure it'll be challenged at some point, and I agree it violates the US constitution.

NRA filed this lawsuit within 24 hours after it was signed into law. Pretty sure that's all that is needed. Working through the bullshit liberal court system before getting it to the supreme court is an entirely different story.

That was a different bill from prior years.
