I don't get it and I grew up here.

I was just driving past this empty parking lot that used to be a Home Depot and saw a sign for this Evangelical church, which now rents the space. I can imagine how fucking packed the parking lot is on Sundays, as I've seen similar parking lots.

A surprisingly high 47% of Americans attend weekly church service, though this varies greatly by state (Utah 70%, Maine the lowest at 31%).In comparison, only 29% of Canadians and 20% of Britons are weekly church attendees.

It's not like we're an uneducated African or Latin American nation. We cant claim this ignorance.

And I really don't think it takes a deep intellect to figure out that a book claiming the Savior was born to a virgin, a bunch of Jews wandered a desert for 40 years without all dying, and a man was swallowed by a whale and lived to tell the tale is probably bullshit.

Yet these retards still show up every Sunday to listen to this nonsense.

What gives?

It is a form of control taught and pushed on the majority of the masses...also a revenue source

A brainwash if you will

Honestly you seem like the religious type, surprised you aren't.

Religion has and always will be used for nefarious purposes

I don’t buy those numbers. I think a lot of people still feel guilt about not having a religious practice and exaggerate or lie about the part religion plays in their life.

I was brought up a Christian but the only time I go to church now is because (not really here so much) is to admire the architecture.

Far less religious in CA than it was in VA. I used to laugh at the hypocrisy of a gigantic church in Virginia Beach...it was so plush and so big it looked like a Sony headquarters or something. So much money, and they don't pay a single dollar in tax.

I just searched on Audible. I have 3 credits so I'm gonna try hos 12 rules for life. He seems pretty interesting in his wiki bio.
He has an interesting take on how judeo Christian values impact modern western civilization and on what happens if that is to replaced by, nothing. For me, it forced a lateral way of thinking towards the Christian church and the bible. It's not as black and white as we may think.

I think he takes a more a psychological/moral approach towards western religion. And I think he actually makes some good points. Before we do away with it, why not have at least a different approach towards religion. People need purpose in their lives, they need to belong, can we truly say that in modern day society, all people do? I think the opposite is the case. Our culture is slowly falling apart, and we become more separated from one another.

Jesus taught some good lessons. He was also taller than Jon Snow.
