I'm saying that when the ban was enacted, it did not change anything.

Just as many people died from guns. Just as many gun crimes occurred. Just just as many shots were fired per gun crime.

So what is your goal in banning assault weapons?

Because I would like to see all of those things above reduced. And if banning assault weapons doesn't do that, then what is the point?

Because I have pointed out a number of negatives in doing so.

So instead of attacking me personally for my position, how about you tell me exactly why you "respectfully disagree" that it will make a difference now when it didn't make a difference for the 10 years and we had a ban.

More people die in car crashes than attending a nascar event, but as soon as people where killed at an event that took steps to avoid it happening again, they did not say "hey well since most die other ways we can just turn a blind eye"

It was largely ineffective, which is why it was allowed to expire and has yet to be reenacted on a federal level. States have their own restrictions, and studies show that those with heavier restrictions do not have fewer shootings. In many cases, it's the direct opposite.

I just think this is extremely serious topic. We agree for the most part that it takes a lot of measures, but where we disagree is about assault weapons and I do think it would make a difference in some cases.

Why don't we at least focus on the fact that we agree on 90% here.

I am a firm believe that good guys with gun can stop bad guys iwth guns. Its not just the ban, I want a 20 point plan, including having more law enforcement on school ground so when they get the guns illegally they wont be able to do as much harm.
