Well the Ultimate goal would be to not have people shooting up schools and committing mass shootings. I have no idea what the best way to fox ot would be, but to act like an ostrich and bury your head in the sand is certainly not gonna fox anything
I'm not burying my head in the sand on this. I've looked at all kinds of proposed solutions, but things I can find that work across socio-economic boundaries are basically:

1) Stop giving notoriety and fame to the shooter. Focus the notoriety on, and honor, the victims.
2) Better access to mental health care, fewer stigmas associated with it. More research into the long-term and corner-case effects of anti-depressants.
3) End the blanket "Gun Free Zone" policy for schools, and encourage each state/municipality to implement their own policies.

There are other things that I think would work, but I haven't seen any empirical evidence to support them, or the downside risk is too high.
Fuck my feels when it comes to policy and law.

Well, we tried the 'Gun Free' thing...it hasn't helped...possibly just made things worse.
It created the softest of targets.... an environment where children are sitting in a room with one exit and no threat To the shooter of anyone being near to stop them.

There's no arguing that America doesn't have a school shooting problem. Even if it doesn't happen as often as people think, it still happens WAY more than any other developed country.

When I think of Canadian school shootings I think of the shooting in Montreal in 2006, and our biggest one was the Polytechnique massacre back in the 80s. I know there have been others before and after that, but it seems like America has one every month or so. But you can get the same guns up here, it's just a bit harder (taking a course and test, waiting a few months).

I think instead of rallying against guns mindlessly, we should look at the effect media has on these instances by glorifying and making "celebrities" out of these school shooters.

Honestly. So much coverage. So much talk about the killer. So much digging into their life for answers. They become infamous almost instantly.

Listen, there is no logical gun discussion ever going to take place in this country, as long as politicians receive money from lobbyist groups and manufacturers.... To all the dumb fucks who think arming teachers, staff, and students with guns.. go jump in front of a fucking truck.

To all the idiots who think that if ALL guns go away, no violence will ever take place... Wake the fuck up to reality.

Violent behavior is a trait of mankind, we're basically a virus on this planet, we'll never be at peace as long as people feel they are dominant because of their color, religion, or geographical location. School shootings, wars, all this shit will continue as long as excessive classism, nationalism, and racism exist, and logic gets looked down upon..... This is our planet people.

By this logic, Austraila has a huge gun violence problem.
I know they had one recently, but it was the first in a while since they banned guns.

America can't do that tho they are fucked

I really don't give a shit about gun control debates but I bet those families of every child shot does not care how rare it is. Kids in the USA should not be getting gunned down. True mental health reform must happen for this to improve. Somehow nobody is surprised at the crazy little fucks that do this kind of stuff.

They also shouldn’t be getting killed by drunk drivers and that happens literally everyday, yet you can get 4 DUIs before seeing any significant sentence in most states. We have a lot of problems with violence and death that need to be addressed and school shootings is probably at the bottom of that list.

So you would rather address dui than school shooters?

I agree both are issues that need to be tackled, but if I was to send my kid to a university is be less worried about the getting ran over than shot by a weirdo

I'd worry about both. But if my kid is hanging with someone who has multiple dui I'd make them stop. It's not like you can spot multiple mass shooters tho. Other than them being weird, white, and immigrant. Never the blacks. They go for the single kills

Um yea... statistically they’re more likely to be killed by either drinking and driving themselves, being involved in an accident with a drunk driver, or even being ran over by a drunk driver. Just this week we had a 3 fatality car accident with kids on the way to school because of a guy that was still drunk from the night before.

the idea sounds absurd but fact is we haven't tried it. Not saying it'll work, but maybe they should try this experiment somewhere for a prolonged period of time and see what the result is like.

What do we got to lose when other options don't seem to work at all and school shootings continue to happen as often as UFC putting up great ppv cards?

as of now, we're all repeating same process and expecting different results...
