Open Wheel dude Castroneves is trying to run the Daytona 500.

He just laid a turd in qualifyung so he'll have to race his way into the grid.

The Twin 125s are tonight.
First one is at 7. 2nd race around 8:30.
Yes I know they call them Duels now but idgaf.

Qualifying races for the Daytona. These can get pretty exciting for the cars around the cut line.

Think of it as a top 70 cut day on a PGA Friday - except these dudes are doing it at 200 mph. You pass that guy on the last lap, you are in the 500. You don't - you're going home.

F1 eliminated the fast lap point heading into this season because too often teams would just pit late for fresh tires to go after the point. It turned into a tactic that didn't improve racing.

NASCAR will be implementing the fast lap point for the first time this year. The same shit is going to happen. We'll see cars that are a lap down try to nab a point by flying around the track on fresh tires. I can even see teams make multiple stops to make minor adjustments to get the fastest lap they can when their car is out of contention.

I like it better than the stupid stage points, but it's still a bad idea.

Damn. That was a hard fucking shot.

My money for the first one is on Chastain. He had a problem at the start of the race and started out of the pack about 1/2 lap back. 16 laps in and he's running 10th. Fast car.

Castroneves crashed. He gets some bullshit auto-qualifier for the race on Sunday though - so he will be the 41st car. And he's racing for $0 prize money.

Bubba took the first one.
My money was on Chastain - he finished 4th. Strong showing.

LOL @ the ARCA race at Daytona.
I don't follow ARCA because it's ARCA. It's basically Rookie Ball. A developmental league / lower cost racing. It doesn't get much - if any - national exposure.

But apparently there is a YouTube dude named Cleetus McFarland who is running ARCA. His channel is racing based, so there's a connection. But he went from being a YouTube dude to participating in an ARCA race that was broadcasted on FOX. I'm sure NASCAR is loving the eyes he's bringing to the sport.

During the race yesterday he live-streamed the event. He only made it 13 laps because it was ARCA at a Super Speedway and that's just a recipe for disaster, but his comments were pretty great.

Post-race interview. Zero mention of sponsors. No staged sips of Coca-Cola with the logo facing the camera.

Time stamped right before the wreck. As soon as he gets done crashing he kills the engine and starts talking to the stream. Haha.

The feed had 676k views. I'm sure NASCAR is taking notice.
There's never been that many eyeballs on an ARCA race.

Due to expected weather in the area, the start time for the Daytona 500 has been moved UP one hour to 1:30 PM

I just looked at the weather report down in America's Penis. It looks like there will be a lengthy delay in this race about half way through.

Kyle Busch is the odds-on favorite at +900
He's starting 21st.

Chase Briscoe is on the pole.
The Twin 125 winners were Austin Cindric and Bubba Wallace, so they will start 2, 3.

I might take flyers on Alex Bowman (+3000 to win, +400 Top 5) and Christopher Bell (+2200 to win, +285 Top 5)

I watched last year's 24 Hours of Nurburgring endurance race, and there was a similar buzz around a team of YouTubers including Jimmy Broadbent and Misha Charoudin. They too streamed the onboard feed from their car. It brings new, young eyes to the sport, and the organisers definitely sat up and took notice.

I've never watched any Jimmy Broadbent videos as he does the typical "surprised/astonished/ecstatic face" thumbnails on every fucking video thumbnail, and I absolutely despise that:

Broadbent.jpg

He's a decent bloke by all accounts though. Lost his father to suicide some years back, spiralled into depression, his fiancee dumped him, he lost his house. Ended up living in a converted shed in his mum's garden. Built himself back up, got into sim racing, started uploading to YouTube. He's currently got close to a million subscribers, owns his own home, and has a garage full of cool fast cars, whilst staying grounded and not being a "look at what I've got" type of douche.

Mishs Charoudin is famous for thrashing cars around the Nurburgring, I've seen a couple of his videos where he scared the crap out of some other YouTubers. He's properly quick.

I'll be tuning in to the 24 Hours of Nurburgring this year, they have teamed up with a professional racing driver who is a former winner of the event.

Rain delays suck.

Thankfully The Genesis is heating up. Kind of cool that a dude named Maverick is leading in San Diego.

Goose didn't make the cut. Cuz he's dead.

Logano just missed a gear on restart and caused an accordian all the way through the field. About 12 cars back the 42 got into Chastain who got into Castroneves.

Chastain looked like he broke the tow link. Took the worst of it.

Logano had an ECU issue. Led most of Stage 1. Now he's a lap down. They swapped it out but it still sounds weird. Last year's champ might be out of contention today.

Crew figured it out. Debris got into the throttle body. They switched it out. He got the lucky pass and is right back in the thick of it. Currently 17th.

If he wins this one - it's all on his crew.

Stenhouse just blocked Logano.
Logano got impatient and kept going, tried to fiy through a narrow spot.
Took out half the field.

Those two might fight after this one. Logano is PISSED.
