I always carry a knife. I don't even think twice about it.

I spent most of today at a winery celebrating Onetrickpony @Onetrickpony's new baby and I had a knife hooked to my pocket the entire time.

Shit! I forgot to alert Wild @Wild I was in his redneck of the woods today.
Larger than a 3 inch blade? 3 Inch blades are legal in the UK, but no longer. Pocket knives, Swiss army knives, etc, are perfectly fine and legal. That's not what this is for.

Yeah, all those uses for a cannon and a tank.
A cannon fires a projectile. That's its purpose, it doesn't become a weapon until you shoot those projectiles with intent to harm. Tanks are essentially a combination of other inventions. Something like a nuclear warhead would better fit the description of something designed purely to hurt people, even then I don't know that to be accurate. The technology in them was likely designed for something else and later weaponized.

Some do. We've had knife amnesties before and they've brought in significant amounts of weapons.
How exactly do you quantify that? A box full of knives just means that a lot of knives were unwanted and needed to be disposed of. It might be different in the UK, but declaration of intent isn't part of an amnesty here.

The box has a picture of a pocket knife, a broken bottle and a screwdriver on the front of it.

An amnesty puts out the thought of getting rid of the weapons, placing it in an offenders mind and gets them thinking about it. Anyone that just wanted to get rid of old kitchen knives can just throw them in the bin, they don't need to be prompted. The amnesty bin offers a place where someone can throw the weapon away anonymously and without the fear of being arrested over it. If a few extra knives are put in there, who cares, an amnesty is resource cheap and any results are a positive.

I'm not sure why it bothers you that people have someone to throw away knives, whether they were used as weapons or not.

3 Inch blade knives are legal, so it isn't specifically intended for that, but if someone wants to put one in then why not accept it?

Because it pushes a false narrative that knives are too dangerous for people to have and that limiting a freedom is for your own good. Your whole stated thought process is laughable. "If someone just wants to get rid of old kitchen knives they'll throw them away." Okay, that makes sense. You don't want something you throw it away. "But a potential criminal needs to be prompted and a special box put out for them."

3 Inch blade knives are legal, so it isn't specifically intended for that, but if someone wants to put one in then why not accept it?
Because you're now going from trying to "prevent crime" to rounding up household goods. It's fucking lunacy that a police department is putting out a box asking for pocket knives and screwdrivers in the name of public safety. The only thing crazier is that people think it promotes public safety.

So what's available after acid?
Do they build anything in GB?
Nail guns, Hammers, crowbars, grinders, box cutters, baseball bats(i prefer softball), sawzalls, drills, rocks...
Are cars still legal there?
Rat poison?
Why not just toss some gasoline on them and throw a match?
I'm just brainstorming out loud here.

If I were them I'd just ban crime.

Fwiw, (as this relates to the discussion you and I were having in the Vegas thread) This is now the U.K.'s third round of "Well, if we ban it crime will stop." It turns out that assholes are pretty creative.
I just had a similar chat with my brother on this. I was leaning towards most of your points as we (bro and I) used to be inline before, he's coming around as I did on it. I keep hearing that because AUS had it work we all can. I'm too lazy to check at the moment and this may not be the right thread.

There are actually a lot of examples of it not working. I remember the virtuous Vutu getting all bent ouf ot shape when I pointed this article out to him last year: Gun city: Young, dumb and armed Because I don't expect you to read the news article. Since the gun ban, gun crime in Melbourne has gotten completely out of control because only hoodlums have guns, and they know it. So they're brazen about using them.

I have two henkels chef knives ( 1 german , 1 china) and 1 knife i use to clean fish and cut sushi. Not sure what type of knife it is or brand.

I never considered keeping a knife for anything else. I think a small baton like the kind police carry would be much more effective to fend off at attacker. You have to get very close to your attacker to use a knife.

I think that's why knifes are mostly used to attack, and not so much to defend. I have a knife but would not grab for it to defend myself. That would be a bat or a gun. But yes, a knife requires you to get up close and personal, and messy.

We have a druggie family member (who has stolen from other family members) who came over for a BBQ once. He knows my boys are here alone sometimes. He casually asked them what they would do if someone broke into the house. Both my boys immediately spouted out their well thought out plan. He came to me and said, wtf? I talk my kids on what to do in case of a fire......and a burglary, someone putting their hands on them, someone trying to take them, someone offering them drugs, etc. (my mom says that I'm terrorizing them) Both of my boys carry a knife when even walking around the neighborhood.

I don't know if 12 years of working in law enforcement (seeing evil daily) or working at ER (seeing victims daily) has made me this way or what.

But I'm certain that guy (druggie family guy) will think twice about trying to steal anything from here.

I love that there's a flathead screwdriver on it. Now everyone with a toolbelt is some sort of blood lusting monster.
