I want to build the most innovative house ever, so yeah I’m in - already have geothermal in the current house, so getting there….
I'm about to run corregated pipe throughout the property & pond for geothermal.!

Would you mind telling us about your geothermal system, you filthy hippy.

Seriously, I've always thought they were really cool.

I did a presentation though thermal and other stuff back in college, but that was like 5 years ago so I can't remember that.
I've been pumped full of fentanyl since then.

But I'm going to run some pipe in the pond and then Bury it about 4 feet deep coming out of the pond and then running to the heat pump. Gives me that low variation in temperature.
I'm not sure exactly what pipe to run in the pond though because my bass Have taken up shop along with catfish.
I'm thinking about just burying it in the yard about 8 feet deep.

Been a long time since I have looked into it but IIRC water is a better transfer than underground. There were a couple systems that used drilled wells, some would just have one well for draw and dump but using two separate wells was way more efficient.

On the road atm, will try to find a video to share when I get a chance, but have any of you seen pre-insulated wall blocks?

I think it might be called SIP.

I thought it looked pretty cool and efficient from a build perspective, but haven't come across anyone who's actually built with it.

Curious as to whether it's actually good or just another gimmick.

SIP is legit. I see it pop up every now and then.
I just recently had to make some pitch blocks for a SIP roof to complete the transition from the 90 degree SIP to the 8/12 pitch at the ridge.

It's not the way I would have done it and I tried to value engineer it for the customer but it was a city job - and as usual - the architect was being a fucking dick about any change submittals.

My buddy built his garage out of them, he was very happy with them

We bought the house with the geothermal and it works really well - heating and cooling - it’s 35 years old and I know expensive to put in, but I imagine you get pretty big savings over time. A leak in the loop would be a serious pain in the ass, but so far so good. Our unit is old and I looked into replacement costs - 20k - so we’re just going to keep the old one and get it repaired as needed. The whole concept is pretty smart, take the constant 55 degree earth temperature and heat or cool from there - it’s our first house without a traditional air conditioner, so that defrays some of the cost.

When I built my earth sheltered home I was going to put in earth tubes throughout the berm but during the backfilling process I forgot, still pissed off about that, I have drainage all around it that comes to daylight, I was just going to tee off of that and penetrate the walls on both ends.
