I definitely wouldn't call someone like Ortega lucky, but he has been a bit fortunate that his opponents shit the bed or made mistakes in round 3 of some of his fights.
You can't tell me it was part of his strategy to lose the first 2 rounds against Guida and Moicano.
of course not, it's never the strategy to lose a round...or any part of the fight. But I also think that a 'strategy' that focuses on finishing a guy like Clay Guida in the 1st round isn't a very good one. When Brian fought Clay, he'd only been finished in the first round once, and that was the previous fight against Thiago Tavares by a guillotine submission.
I guess my point is that some guys go in there looking to finish, and when the opportunity presents itself, they execute. I don't consider it 'lucky' that your opponent makes a mistake - everybody makes a mistake. But if you watch the Moicano or Guida fight, those guys weren't spamming mistakes for 3 rounds. They fought excellent game plans, and they were being highly successful.
Until they made a mistake, and Brian put them away.
