The wife was watching Say Anything last night.
That's the one with the famous scene of the guy holding a boombox up outside a girl's house.

I fell asleep in about 15 minutes, and I don't really remember anything about this movie other than the photo above.

But one thing I did notice is the chick that Cusack was obsessed with was decidedly average:

Nosferatu (2024)
8/10
After mixed reviews between critics and regular viewers I did what I rarely do and sided with critics, who generally loved it. Visually it’s a great piece of moviemaking. Plays a little bit with the plot points of the 1922 original, but generally sticks to the story. Most regular viewers said it was boring but I watched the extended cut and didn’t find it so. Can’t help but think the haters either don’t know or just don’t understand the original.
I didn't care for it.

It mixed Nosferatu with Dracula and claimed it was an "inspired" movie.

The visuals were excellent though as was set and costume.

The story though was poorly told and the film didn't assist there at all.

It was too muddy in it's storyline.

5/10.

"Companion."

Basically sex robots in the future and things that go wrong when they realize they are robots and belong to bad people.

A fun watch though. Maybe a 6 out of 10? Probably a 5.

"The Gorge."

6/10 maybe 6.5.

Kind of a weird zombie meets gov't movie.

It does expect you to pull a lot out of context. I will admit I probably mentally filled in the blanks due to familiarity with the original, which I just rewatched on Halloween, as well as having read Dracula probably 10 or 15 times since 7th grade.
As far as “mixing” Dracula and Nosferatu, that’s simply by default. Nosferatu is an unauthorized adaption of Dracula (the novel) that Murnau tried to skirt by changing some character names. Didn’t work, and he got sued and had to pay Stoker’s widow. Also, all copies were supposed to be destroyed but a few incomplete ones survived, so basically it exists today as a bootleg.

Totally understand how the Nosferatu film ripped off Dracula and the history mixes the two.

I agree with you that the biggest problem with the film was that it EXPECTED the watcher to fill in the blanks the film didn't care to share with the viewer. The problem is that someone who has not seen much or any of either won't know what is going on. The person I watched it with had that problem and kept asking me what was going on and who was who.

Came across this movie yesterday - haven't watched it, yet. It's about a guy that went on the game show "Press Your Luck" back in the (I think?) '80s and took them for a shitload of money.

I'm not sure if he did anything nefarious, or if he just found a glitch in how their board & all that worked. Either way, it looks like a great movie with an excellent cast.

Here's also a docu I found about it.

Well, I say "docu", but so far (I'm maybe 2/3 of the way through it), it seems to be more of just showing the original episode the guy was on with extra commentary added.

Was gonna post the doc, basically he noticed that the screen was a repeating pattern and was able to master it but watching vcr recordings non stop.

I'd never heard of the entire thing until I saw the trailer yesterday and found it fascinating.

I started the docu last night as I wanted to watch it before the movie. In the beginning, they talk to a few producers & showrunners saying how they didn't like him, he was weird, etc...I'm expecting it to turn into some kinda conspiracy or rigging the show or nefarious plot. Then it seems like he just memorized the path of the boxes, as well as which two slots whammys never landed in.

Now the people in the beginning saying they didn't like him seem just sour because he figured out the loophole in their show & worked it for over a hundred grand. lmao

read the wiki, he was always looking for quick rich schemes, was being charged for an MLM scam, he was kind of a scumbag.

Yeah, the show didn't want to pay him, they thought he was cheating, he just memorized the patterns.

Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much
is a 2017 American documentary film that profiles Ted Slauson, an elementary school mathematics teacher and super fan of The Price Is Right. Interviews with Slauson reveal how he became fascinated with the show in the early 1970s, which drove him to memorize the prices of products, and his involvement with contestant Terry Kniess, who bid perfectly on a showcase in 2008 and gave no credit to Slauson for his assistance.[1][2]

Yeah, the docu talked about him always wanting to get rich quick. I didn't know about the MLM.

I'm not saying the guy wasn't suspect or a legit creep or whatever.

But he didn't rig his appearance on the show or do anything underhanded. I think that's what pissed them off. lol

Watching a docu on him now. Apparently he got busted because he incorporated a fake business under a family member's name, hired himself, then fired himself so he could collect unemployment.

Kinda genius. lmao
