2018 Pantone Color of the Year is ultra violet.
We are the beautiful people!
How to look like you know what you're doing with no effort is that if you are going to buy one clothing or accessory item this year, opt for one with the pantone color of the Year in it. This year happens to be purple.

That colour looks like shit on me.
Let me offer color theory tips that I've learned from years of combining yarns to ease the process because anyone can wear anything if you know how. The best way to avoid looking like Barney the dinosaur is to pair purple with a monochromatic (navy, pink {since we are talking menswear we will stick to navy} )rather than a neutral (black, white, grey). A neutral like black will make purple pop and become the dominant focus, a monochromatic like navy and the purple will blend in looking more like blue.

Neutral- focus is the purple shirt even though the purple is muted it still pops because the grey is neutral.

Monochromatic - can't even notice the purple or pink, the navy is the prominent color because the purple is blending in with the blue.

I've always thought the simpler the dress the better, but I'd still tell my girlfriend she looked great if she wore the purple fishing net like whoever was in the last picture

I have a few lavender ties & shirts, never went with the ultraviolet like the pics were

When it comes between blue and Purple, the blue will always win.

Navy and Purple are a great color combo, and you know most other guys will not have the know how to put this color family together. The times you will see a man in purple It's almost always exclusively with black or maybe grey and the purple takes over the outfit. If you pair purple with navy, the purple just compliments the blue. Swag life lesson #1. You can wear Purple to bring out blue.

Lavender is still going to be on trend because purple is difficult to wear for most people so there's going to be alot of people only willing to venture into muted tones of purple like greyish heather purple or a light lavender purple because these are less of a contrast paired with a neutral like black or grey.

The navy tip still applies with lavender so that you're using purple to compliment blue. Purple is a type of blue (with a bit of red), which is why they work so well together. When paired with blue, purple shows more blue tones but when paired with a neutral like black you see more of the red tones which is why it pops so much when paired with a neutral but seems to disappear when paired with blue. Men usually don't like their clothes to pop too much which is why purple isn't always a comfortable color for them, but blue is and so if you pair the two together, purple just becomes a tone of blue.
