Tony Ferguson will return to the octagon against Anthony Pettis at UFC 229.

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Ferguson hasn’t competed since last October, but will end his year-long layoff against ex-champ Pettis, according to two people with knowledge of the booking. The people requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.

UFC 229 takes place Oct. 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card, which is headlined by a 155-pound title fight between champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, airs on pay-per-view following prelims streamed on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass....

I like it. Could definitely be a fun fight and I love that Tony just wants to fight and isn't too concerned with an arbitrary number beside of someone's name.

Winnable fight for Pettis considering Ferguson isnt the type of guy to dry hump his opponents.

I imagine Pettis will be a decent dog here. Tony isn't much of a takedown threat minus ninja rolls. I think Pettis lights him up on the feet. The cardio is my only worry.

Eh. Don't think Anthony deserves it.

Don't get me wrong he is a great fighter. And Former Champ.

But he hasn't looked like himself in years and his record shows it.

Guess i'm just being picky.

At the end of the day i'm just Happy to see "El Cucuy" back in the Cage.

great fight! no one else for fergy (except maybe laquinta) anyway. he already beat lee/barboza, poirier is fight diaz, gaethje gets vick. alvarez just lost. and pettis is prob a better name than all them except diaz anyway. 4 fun fights for ufc229 now.

conor/khabib

Damn, Pettis has balls. Dude was on top of the MMA world, went on a serious skid, gets a nice win over Chiesa, now instead of building on that momentum he is going all-in against the elite of the division. I hope he takes it, but I’m nervous for him. That being said, this is a very balanced matchup in terms of both fighters being well-rounded and unorthodox (in their own ways). Can’t wait!

Good on Fergy.
At the end of the day, his resume will eclipse the other two...champs.

But I swear by Odin's beard, if Conor pulls off the upset and stalls for Nate, or some other "superfight", well, if they don't feed their buses carrots in Ireland I'll be throwing a handtruck at his.

If he were fighting Khabib I'd say it was a mistake bc he matches up terribly with wrestlers. Fergie isn't such a terrible matchup though, so he's got a small chance.

I personally think he quits in fights when it gets too tough for him (basing this mostly off the Poirier fight). Anyway that type of approach will do him no favors against Ferguson, a guy who never stops pressing the action.
