Frankie had to be far more careful about the takedown against Ortega, because of that BJJ...but there's now a part of me that wonders if Conor would have landed something like that and put Frankie down.

Yes, he would have. He hits way too hard and is 100x more crisp, accurate, fast etc than Ortega. Frankie is one of my favorites EVER, but he is too small for both of these guys. He's been around so long, been in so many wars and eaten so many punches in training/fights that eventually this was gonna happen, and someone who hits as hard as Conor would do it at this stage in Edgar's career.

I think Frankie could have beaten Max though, Max has amazing flurries but he doesn't have that one shot power like Conor or Ortega.

Frankie has been sliding. I think the result would have been the same.

current frankie likely

frankie of a lil while ago not likely

conner almost got pounded out by short notice mendes...Ed could GNP LNP him a couple years back

that said CM can one shot anyone at 155(no higher)

Frankie is fading and has been IMO(age/mileage)...I do know he has been hot last 3.5 years but I see a difference

Connie don't wanna fight anybody anyways now so....

The real question is would that have happened to frankie when they should have fought. Conor chose Mendez instead of an in shape frankie.

fight game is always a young mans game.. pretty sure ortega would do the same to connor at this stage of his career.

Guys are you all crazy. Frankie loses one fight and all this nonsense pops up. While me and someone else spoke the other day about Frankie's chin which we feared could be done otherwise the guy is totally on point. There will always be loses. Let's see how Frankie rebounds from this.

What was the name of the guy with a wrestling pedigree and a full fight camp that Conor fought and knocked out?
I forget...

Conor hates fighters who pressure him. Ortega acted much more composed with the pressure. Not saying Conor couldn’t get it done but I also think Frankie could take him down an annihilate him just as easily as Conor could land one of his left hands. Ortega had the threat of his BJJ to make Frankie worried about getting a TD to begin with so one could argue that had an effect on Frankie’s game plan from the start but there are no excuses when someone catches you like Ortega caught Frankie.

It would have been way worse then this for Frankie.
couldn't have ended worse...Frankie was in la la land

But it may have been quicker...he is so freaking tiny that CM would have quite the range advantage

Good God, the matchup is completely different.

Did you guys forget what Frankie did to Cub and Yair?

Why would Frankie stand with Conor, do you guy s really think Conor can keep it on the feet against Frankie?

Frankie stood wtih Ortega because grappling is where Ortega shines, Frankie would not allowe Conor that shot, Conor has never showed any kind of special TDD, fucking Nate Diaz took him down, how the fuck would Frankie not.

The answers on this thread mostly are weird to me

I agree Frankie's fighting style is combination/takedown combination/takedown for 25 min he would gas conor that way in a round and than just gnp.
Frankie couldn't do that to Ortega, the one time he leaned in a bit with his head ortega almost slapped on a guilletione, so frankie was avoiding the takedown like a plague.
To me it seemed he wanted to keep the pace high and go for a finish in the later rounds, got caught with that elbow and that amazing uppercut that made him airborne.

Lol this is the funniest critique used by Conor haters
I guess Conor was just fortunate to not face any wrestlers in a division stacked with wrestlers. The one wrestler he did fight, took the fight on two weeks notice. That wrestler clearly won the first and was on his way to winning the second when he fatigued (credit to Conor for attacking the body with his strikes) and was finished with 3 seconds left in the round. I don't think it's unusual to wonder how Conor would do against someone with a full tank and a Div1 wrestling background. Would that wrestler have held him down and punched him for one more round? Would Conor have retained enough power to KO/TKO in the 3rd/4th/5th round (Conor has never finished a fight beyond the 2nd round)?

I think these are all legitimate questions. Unless you're just a shameless nut-hugger. FWIW, I like Conor's fighting and fight persona. I even like him when he's helping kids and teammates. I think he's good for MMA in every way, except for all the dipshits that try and copy his style.

But I also think he was protected from legit wrestlers.

Frankie is a legit wrestler with striking footwork. The lack of striking footwork is what got Mendes ripped to the body.
Frankie takes Conor down and steals his Lucky Charms.

EDIT - from experience, when Brian snatches your neck you realize you never never never want this guy on your neck again.
Ever.
